THE MESA REAL ESTATE

Nestled at the foothills of the San Jacinto Mountain and nestled between the Old Palm Canyon Drive and the village, the Mesa is a very vibrant neighborhood. The Mesa has a fascinating history; it originally was founded by Dr. Harold Moorten, who was Palm Springs’ very first horticulturist (a person who cultivates plants for usefulness as food or medicine). Today the area is mostly residential but houses many wonderful natural specimens.

The Mesa Homes For Sale

The Mesa, a neighborhood features 180 homes that are all located on 15 acres in Palm Springs, California. The neighborhood is bounded on the north by El Camino and Ridge Road and is reachable via Tahquitz Canyon Way, on the east by South Palm Canyon Drive which cuts through downtown Palm Springs, on the south by Cantina and Hwy. 111, and the San Jacinto Mountains, and on the west by West San Show Place and Via Valmonte.

There is a departure from the dramatic awnings, elaborate doorways, and high-trough roofs of many historic districts. In The Mesa neighborhood, the inhabitants seek newer tastes in interior design and architecture. And while they have not abandoned their appreciation for traditional mainstays such as exterior arches, restrained latticework, and front porches with bins of hanging pansies, things get mixed up through a moody juxtaposition of light airy textures—white fabrics on smooth wood floors, for example. The properties for sale are priced ranging from an average of $650,000 up to $4,000,000.

The Mesa Lifestyle

As an exclusive gated community, The Mesa provides residents with a sense of privacy that is not found in any other neighborhood in Palm Springs. Nestled among the San Jacinto Mountains and just a few minutes away from the downtown area, these luxurious homes are just moments away from all major freeways as well as a number of shopping centers, schools, parks, and medical centers for north Palm Springs.

The neighborhood is among the most historic areas in the desert city. Developed in 1920, this neighborhood has been called a gated, private community because of all of its quirky secrets and private entrances on a common border but alas, it’s also known for having some of the city’s tastiest food and swankiest boutiques.

The neighborhood was first developed by Edmond Fulford in 1922 who visualized The Mesa as a gorgeous community with a peaceful setting that would remain shielded from hot desert winds. What makes the neighborhood unique though are its breathtaking views and its historic Gatehouse which is located at 690 N. El Portal Dr close to South  Palm Canyon Drive that was built to commemorate Fulford’s dream that although never came into full fruition remains unaltered today for others to enjoy.

There’s no denying the retro-modern charm of this beautiful community. Walking through the streets you can always spot a little corner shop or café dotted around where people take their bikes or just walk to go shopping or simply enjoy the refreshing weather whilst admiring the breathtaking setting!

Enjoy The Mesa Amenities

Once again, you will be drawn to the Mesa — a much-hyped vacation playground that attracts celebrities like Natalie Wood, Kirk Douglas, and Michael Landon (to name just a few). Plus, there’s plenty of history here too. The Ship of the Desert, for example, was once home to “Gunsmoke” star James Arness.  Barry Manilow moved to Palm Springs many years ago. Old Las Palmas, Andreas Hills, Chino Canyon, and the Tahquitz Canyons have all made history as the home of settlers ever since hikers first moved out here some centuries ago.

Tahquitz Canyon is a spiritual place for many Native Americans. The canyon takes you through the serene Tahquitz river and over a scenic two-mile trail to the majestic Tahquitz Falls. Many people overlook this short hike, but it is important not to miss out on this beautiful canyon.

There’s also a local garden known as the Moorten Botanical Garden a few blocks away from The Mesa. This is owned and managed by a family, and it features desert plants for sale.
